The selectmen met on Wednesday and dealt with several issues. Selectman Hiland noted that members of several boards are interested in attending a workshop on Right To Know. It was suggested that Kathy Vizard contact other select boards around the area to see if they too have people interested in such a workshop. Perhaps this might mitigate the costs associated with this workshop.
Norman Tragenza, candidate for District 7 Representative, came before the selectmen to advise them of his run and what he felt most adamant about. One of his ideas was to reduce the number of state regulations. He asked what the selectmen were interested in and left his telephone number should the selectmen have any special needs.
He was followed by a visit from Curtis Coleman discussing the red listed bridges and town roads. Though the bridges could not immediately be completely fixed, they could be posted to avoid problems. Additionally, Selectman Hiland suggested that the town apply to the state for aid in making the needed improvements of these bridges. The state will pay 80 percent of the costs if approved. Curtis also spoke of road repairs. For this more funds are needed. This will be brought up at the next Town Meeting. Additionally it was suggested bonding for these roads.
Rick Hiland reported that the Planning Board has approved the work to be done at World Fellowship. Cathy Ryan attended a Cemetery Committee Meeting where there was discussion regarding modernization of the properties.
Steve Knox questioned the selectmen about the road worthiness of motor homes in the town. They will look into this.
The town is accepting bids on the sale of property located on West Main Street Ext. All bids must be received by September 5 at noon. Bids will be opened September 7 at 4:15 p.m. and read aloud at that meeting. This is a tax sale and is being sold without a warranted deed or condition of property. The successful bidder will receive a Quit Claim Deed. A bid packet may be picked up at the Albany Selectmen’s Office.
Remember that Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is September 18 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway Transfer Station. There is a strict 10 gallon limit per household. Contractors can make arraignments prior to this event.
Check the door at Town Hall for ballot samples of the upcoming (September 13) Primary. All of the candidates for each party are noted.

Gibson Center: Call (356-3231) to sign up for the Tuesday, August 16 trip to Old Orchard Beach to see the “Downeasters” a barbershop group. The bus leaves the Center at 2:30 p.m. and/or on August 17 take the bus to the coast for a Portland Sunset Lighthouse Cruise. Meet at the Center at 2 p.m.
Library: Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. it’s Story Time for Twos and Wednesday it’s Story Time for Wee Ones. At 6 p.m. the Teen Writers Group meets. On Thursday at 10:30 a.m. it’s Story Time for Threes and Fours. At 4 p.m. the Family Garden Club meets.
